Shirebrook has all the amenities expected of a small town, including a Co-op store, post office, a pharmacy, a number of newsagents, a butcher and small convenience stores. It is a traditional market town and the local market meets four times a week.
Nearby Mansfield and Chesterfield both have large shopping centres and Sheffield’s Meadowhall centre is 26 miles away.

Out and about, things to do
The beautiful and impressive Peak District is within easy reach while Welbeck Abbey, Woodland and Great Lake are close by where fantastic views, walks and days out can be enjoyed. Robin Hoods’s fabled home, Sherwood Forest, is around five miles away offering visitors picturesque scenery and rich local history to enjoy.
Chesterfield and Mansfield both have museums, the latter recently being awarded the ‘Guardian Newspaper Family friendly award’ ahead of over 100 museums across the country. The Barrow Hill Engine Shed railway preservation site and Cresswell Crags world famous archeological centre are both nearby.
Hardwick Hall is a 16th century house that survives today almost unchanged. Visitors can explore the property, its grounds and some of finest examples of embroideries and tapestries in Europe.
The close by cities of Nottingham and Sheffield are well worth a visit offering great restaurants, bars and shopping opportunities.
Travel
Shirebrook lies less than seven miles north of Mansfield and 12 miles to the south-east of Chesterfield, making it ideally placed for commuters. There are good road links to the A1(M) approximately five miles away, making Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield to the north and Nottingham and Derby to the south, easily accessible.
Shirebrook has a train station on the Robin Hood line, providing services to Nottingham, Worksop, Mansfield and Hucknall.
Schools & Education
The new Shirebrook Academy is under construction and will be completed in time for the beginning of the school year in September 2013.
The new centre of excellence will offer state of the art educational resources and opportunities.
