Mandale Park sits in the loop of the River Tees and has been separated from Stockton since 1810, due to a short canal which cuts across the loop.
The area has a rich history dating back to the Anglo Saxon period and is most commonly known for its associations with the Darlington and Stockton Railway on which the world\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s first steam hauled passenger train ran.

The development includes a £1 million linear park, with walkways and cycle routes
The town is served by Thornaby Railway Station and is also home to Durham University's Queen's Campus
